Fedora 10 on Macbook Pro

Last week I performed my yearly refresh of my Macbook Pro. I reformat the drive, reinstall the OS and import the /Users folder from Time Machine (or normal backup in the old days). This helps me flush out the crap apps, and seems to speed up, and free up the laptop.

TouchTerm - The iPhone App I have been waiting for

When I got my iPhone about 9 months the one app I wished for was a terminal. I wanted somthing to enable me to quickly login to my servers and fix problems when in work and stuck behind a proxy or when away from the desk.

How not to Jailbreak your Apple iPhone

Over the last week I have found out about so many cool apps that can be installed on a Jailbroken iPhone such as mobile terminal and nes emulator. So I thought I would follow the tutorial on Lifehacker (http://tinyurl.com/5os854) and Jailbreak my iPhone.

Well... it didn't go to plan!

Firstly, the tutorial said to download bootloaders and the PwnageTool will ask for them. When I tried it, I did download the bootloaders but the PwnageTool did not ask for them.

iPhone 2.0 and the App Store

Today Apple released their App Store for the iPhone. The App Store can be accessed via the iPhone or iTunes and is the only place Apple is allowing users to download iPhone Apps. I guess this is a good thing because you know where everything is and it stops crap and viruses getting in, but it does stop the cool hacky software, although if you do want cool hacky software other cool hacky iPhone things can be done elsewhere.

(XV) Xserve-Virtual Mac OS X Leopard VPS server from Media Temple

Earlier this month Media Temple announced that in partnership with Apple and Parallels they will be releasing virtual servers based on Apples Xserve hardware and Mac OS X Leopard Server software.

As a big Apple fan and Web developer I am really excited about this and can't wait to get my hands on one. Media Temple are currently going through a Private Beta test on the system which I have signed up for, I just hope I get selected.

Italy getting unlocked 3G iPhone soon

Reports out today that Steve Jobs has been meeting with the top dogs from Itay's telecoms companies to get the iPhone to Italy.

Italy works mainly on pre-paid mobile phones therefore the iPhone will be sold unlocked at a higher price than the rest of Europe. It also seems they will be the first to get the 3G iPhone within a matter of weeks.

The iPhone is now £100 cheaper

It has already been well reported across the internet but if you haven't heard the iPhone is now £100 cheaper in the UK.

Today O2 reduced the iPhone to £169 until 1st June 2008. I wonder why june? is it because this is when Walt Mossberg's 60 days are up? it is because Apple's WWDC starts on 9th June? is it because the iPhone 2.0 software is out in June? Well no one really knows.

All I know is that this is a good deal but i would advice you think twice before taking it up.

"iPhone will be 3G in 60 Days" says Walt Mossberg

Walt Mossberg of America's Wall Street Journal states on video that the iPhone will be 3G in just 60 Days. I can't wait to get my hands on one, I will buy one tomorrow, but we are yet to see the FCC report which will have to happen before the phone is released.

Bulging Apple Macbook Pro Battery

I noticed today that I have a bulge in the battery of my Apple Macbook Pro 17" C2D. The computer is only 18 months old, and after all the exploding battery stories I am a little scared. I guess I will have to give Apple a call on Monday.

Here is a similar problem from 2 years ago.http://www.geek.com/macbook-battery-problems/.

iPhone 2.0

Well Apple have announced their plans. The iPhone will have exchange e-mail as well as contacts and calender. SDK looks great, AIM and Super monkey ball will be there on the list of apps.

Only problem is we have to wait until June!
